Events

We hold monthly talks from October to April. Details of the current season are on the Lecture Programme page.

November 2017 Lecture : Trevor Ashwin Tribute

Our November lecture will have a particular resonance for those involved in Norfolk archaeology.

The popular local archaeologist Trevor Ashwin (a specialist in the prehistoric) sadly died on Christmas Day 2016. He had a very personal way of looking at the archaeological landscape and his widow, Imogen Ashwin, will be exploring this in her talk on 'Earth and Sky : The Legacy of Trevor Ashwin'.

Expect an eclectic mix of history, archaeology, landscape archaeology and folklore.

Saturday 18 November 2017 : 2.30 : Thomas Paine Lecture Theatre, UEA.

Non-members welcome (no charge).

2017 & 2018 Summer Events

On Friday 12 May 2017 (and repeated on Friday 2 June 2017), two enjoyable study days were held in the ancient market town of Wymondham and attracted over 70 people. Based at the Abbey, the morning was devoted to illustrated talks on the town's history and the afternoon to tours of the town and Abbey and a visit to the monastic humps and bumps in the Abbey Meadow.

From 21 to 24 June 2017, our four-day coach trip to see the major Roman cavalry exhibition being staged at several sites along Hadrian's wall catered for 41 members and was a great success.

On Saturday 22 July 2017, our conference on Roman East Anglia at the UEA also went very well and drew an audience of 130.

A late addition to the programme was a visit on 24 August 2017 (and repeated on 2 September 2017) to see the Must Farm exhibition at Peterborough Museum and the Must Farm boats being conserved at the nearby Flag Fen Archaeological Park. Both days went very pleasantly and again catered in total for over 70 people.

Write-ups of all these events are in the Autumn 2017 issue of 'NAHRG News'.

Plans are in hand for a coach trip and study day in summer 2018.

Our 2018 conference will be on 'Prehistoric East Anglia' and will be held at the UEA (Thomas Paine Centre) on Saturday 21 July 2018.

NAHRG members have priority at our events but non-members are welcome to join us if we have room. Email enquiries@nahrg.org.uk or ring Tony Bradstreet on 01953 453915 for details.
